Clash of arms
The men in the group also occupy themselves with early mediaeval fighting techniques. The group follows the re-enactment system; show fighting is a part of this system.
During the weapon demonstrations we combine show fighting and competitive 'free-style' fighting. The battles do not have a script, so the best warrior wins. However, the show element does remain more important than winning.
During large events with more participants we do perform scripted battles. This script is usually based on a historic event from the early Middle Ages.
During both weapon demonstrations and show fights we show –as safely as possible– how the different weapons were handled in the early Middle Ages. We have knife and sword fighters, axe and spear men, as well as archers.
Everyone standing on our 'battlefield' has to be at least eighteen years old and has to have completed one year of training with a 'training officer'. Furthermore, every warrior is compelled to train regularly. We fight under the international rules. Full contact fight is not demonstrated by us to the public. It is only reserved for the very accomplished fighters who possess the necessary body protectors. Training is allowed from the age of sixteen with permission (see combat rules).
